Who can edit the pages?
You decide who gets access by giving out password for the control to whoever you approve to edit the page. It is best to limit this to as few people as possible.
Do we need to edit the site from a specific computer?
No, any computer with an internet connection. Note that some higher security corporate networks may restrict access to the online services used to manage the site content. We cannot do anything to resolve this and if you need from a corporate network you may need to speak with your IT department.
Can we use any browser?
Yes the online tools work with Internet Explorer 5.5 and above, Firefox 1.06 and above, Opera 8 and above and Safari ideally 2.0 or above.
Can we edit from an Apple Mac?
Yes, Mac or PC works equally well. You can even use a Linux system as long as your have a graphical browser (usually Firefox for Linux) installed. Text based browsers such as Lynx cannot be used.
Can we edit the HTML code directly?
Yes you can toggle the editor between a WYSIWYG view and raw HTML code if you need greater control or you want to de-bug.
Can be insert code such as Javascript, Java Applets or PHP?
Yes all of these can be inserted. Please not that we cannot offer free support for such advanced content creation and should problems arise from poor coding you may incur charges for puttng the site back in good order.
Can we use ASP or any .net functionality?
No the site runs on a UNIX server so these Microsoft technologies are not available.
Can we run database functions and tools on the site?
We can provide mySQL 4 and 5 databases for use on the site but these will have to run through pages created on separate web pages and linked to the editable site. As with scripts and coding we can acceptable responsibility for any errors and problems that arise from coding errors on mySQL access or queries.
How skilled does a page editor need to be?
In theory anyone can edit and format page for the site but ideally those who edit the site do need to be reasonably well informed IT users. While the site editor is simple and easy to use, there are some slightly teccy issues to master. In general we would say that if you can put together a Powerpoint presentation without too much trouble or create a formatted newsletter letter or laid-out church notice sheets, you should be able to manage the site editor.
How easily can I undo mistakes?
There are undo tools in the editor for very recent changes but if you think things might get out of hand you should backup the site before you start an edit session and if you need to you can restore the last good version. We can set up a daily backup for you to ensure that you are never more than 24 hours from a good version of the site.
Can I preview an edit before it goes live?
You can preview any changes you have made at any time during the edit without publishing the new pages for the public to see on the web. Please note that you will also need to select the publish tab and OK the publication of the site for it to be visible on the public site. Saving your edit will not publish the changes.
We already own our domain name - can we keep this?
Yes you can keep your existing web address. We simply need you to make a couple of changes in the settings for the domain name to direct users to our servers. It may be easier in the long run if we take over the management of your domain name too. We may even save you money!
Will there be adverts or banner on our website?
Not unless you put them there yourselves! No, we do not push any third party materials in to any pages on your website.
Do we need to install specialist software?
No, everything is web-based. All of the design and editing features run as web pages.
Where are your servers located?
Our servers are in the UK data centre of UK2.net, located in the London Docklands
